Viniyoga is a uniquely individualized approach to yoga. While authentically based on classical yogic teachings, Viniyoga adapts the methods of practice to accommodate each student’s unique conditions, interests, and needs. The practice of Viniyoga draws on all the traditional aspects of yoga, including physical poses, breathwork, Meditation, chanting, and scriptural study.
What to expect
Viniyoga is typically taught through individualized sessions, so that the teacher can adapt the practice to suit the particular needs of the student. The student will engage in traditional yogic poses, but the emphasis is on function rather than form. Poses may be held longer, repeated several times, or sequenced in a unique way for the student.
Founder
Gary Kraftsow developed Viniyoga from the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar, with the aim of creating an adaptive approach to yoga that fits the needs of each individual.
