Svaroopa Yoga is a gentle, guided form of yoga that focuses on releasing tension in the muscles that surround the spine. This practice is intended to create healing and transformation not only on the physical level, but on the inner level as well. According to ancient yogic wisdom, the release of energy around the spine facilitates the experience of expanded states of consciousness.
What to expect
Svaroopa Yoga practice works at opening up the spine by starting at the tailbone and moving through each spinal area in succession. Each pose is gently guided by the instructor, and props are often used to help the student achieve the proper position. The practice is accessible to students of all ages and abilities.
Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati created Svaroopa Yoga as a method for "practicing Hatha yoga from the inside out." The word "Svaroopa" comes from the Yoga Sutra by Patanjali and refers to a transcendent inner experience, which is said to be the ultimate purpose of physical yoga practice.
