Yoga with Weights: Baptiste method is a unique exercise system that combines a mindful yoga practice with targeted bodybuilding for overall physical fitness. Breath-based hatha yoga postures are practiced with the addition of small ankle or hand-held weights. The practice alternately contracts and stretches the muscles for increased strength and toning, flexibility and coordination.
What to expect
Yoga with Weights classes place emphasis on proper alignment and on the coordination of breath and movement, increasing mindful focus and safety during practice. The addition of small weights helps build strength and tone targeted areas of the body. The exercises can be modified to accommodate those who are pregnant or older.
Yoga with Weights: Baptiste method was developed by Sherri Baptiste, the daughter of power yoga pioneer Walt Baptiste and sister of well-known power yoga leader Baron Baptiste.
